In Sydney, a city known for its urban feel, Matthew Woodward Architecture and Esoteriko have collaborated to create the Carlotta Residence. The home is inspired by the urban feel of New York, Chicago, and London—cities that share tough, bold, sophisticated, and exuberant personalities. “There is a rawness and an exposure to life in these cities,” the clients describe, “and those feelings get captured in the architecture, the materials and the way they are expressed.”
The use of raw materials like concrete, steel and American black walnut played a dominant role in the brief. Matthew Woodward Architecture used these materials to create an urban feel while Esoteriko used them to imbue spaces with comfort and warmth. “We wanted to recreate an urban feel that represents our previous lives in these big, crowded, energetic, boisterous urban centres.”
